Our assignment has been made…

Heard from the Bishop on Wednesday, August 29, he says our assignment has been made, which means the missionary department has assigned our field of labor, but we do not yet know where or when we’ll be going, but we should hear something soon.  It takes a while for headquarters to put the mission call packet together, We hope to hear something as early as this week or next.

Yesterday my younger brother David R. “Dutch” Weenig flew down from SLC and we enjoyed going to a Texans football game together at the NRG stadium.  That was really fun, and noisy.  Dallas Cowboys lost to the Texans, 14 to 6.  Starting to get ready for the garage sale next week, so we can get rid of some stuff we no longer need.

One of the hardest things to do is to wait…

On Wednesday, August 15, I went with my son Stuart and his three sons (wasn’t there a Fred McMurray sitcom in the 60’s called “My 3 Sons”?) but I digress…to the Houston Museum of Natural Science to see the Dinosaurs and the Weiss Energy Hall at the HMNS .

While there I received a phone call from Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City.  On the other end of the phone was a nurse (who is Church Service Missionary) that wanted to get my PSA reading (has to do with Prostate health) since the information was not included in the medical forms we submitted with our other mission paper work.  I provided that info and asked her how long it would take before we receive word about our mission call.  She said it would probably be a week or two.  Well, we’re waiting not-so-patiently.

In the meantime, we have had another example last week that Heavenly Father is in charge and He knows what is best. Our house has been on the market 40 days. We were beginning to get discouraged because we feel like our mission departure date will be soon. This afternoon our neighbor across the street asked if a friend could come look at our house. She came along with our neighbor, looked at the house, asked lots of questions and left. About 2 hours later, our neighbor called to say the house is SOLD. It will be a cash sale and we are finished showing our home to potential buyers. We are so excited to have this burden lifted and to know we will be free to serve the Lord when and where He wants us to go.

This is what shows on the Missionary Portal for our mission status:

The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining us!

August 8, 2018.

We met with President Metcalf, a member of the Cypress Stake Presidency this evening and submitted our papers to serve a full-time senior couples mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  We’ll be updating here, so please bookmark this page if you want to see where we are going to be called and when.

One of the things we’ll miss most over the next year or so are our grandchildren.  Here. 6 of them are enjoying a Icee break at the urban air trampoline park last month. (we have 7 boys and 4 girls for a total of 11).  We hope they’ll keep up with us here on our blog.IMG_1216
